Preparation and Aftercare for Non-Surgical Cosmetic Augmentations

This treatment will continue to integrate into the tissue over the next 6 weeks, you may find the
treated area may change over this time. Dermal fillers typically last 6-24 months depending on the type of
filler used.

Preparation Guidelines

To maximise the benefits of your non-surgical cosmetic augmentation treatment and minimise any potential side effects, follow these pre-treatment instructions:

  1. Delay Makeup: You can apply makeup after 1-2 hours from precedure

  2. Avoid Alcohol and Smoking: Refrain from consuming alcohol or smoking for at least 48 hours before your appointment. These can affect your body’s healing and hydration.

  3. Limit Blood-Thinning Substances: Avoid taking blood-thinning medications and supplements, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E, for at least a week prior to your treatment. Consult your healthcare provider for guidance regarding prescription medications.

  4. Other Medications: Avoid taking  other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, Advil®, Motrin®, Celebrex®, Fish oil, Gingko Biloba , St. John’s Wort  1 day after the treatment, as these may cause an increased risk of bleeding or bruising at the injection sites

  5. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your session to support overall skin health.

  6. Pause Active Skincare: Avoid retinoids, exfoliants, or other active skincare products in the treatment area for 3-5 days before your appointment.

  7. Reduce Sunlight and UV Lamp Exposure: An SPF 30 with Zinc oxide or titanium dioxide (barrier sun cream) is recommended to reduce swelling and redness

  8. Schedule Smartly: Plan your treatment at least 2-3 weeks before any major event to ensure any swelling or redness has completely subsided.

  9. Clean Skin: Arrive at the clinic with clean, makeup-free skin to minimise the risk of infection.

Aftercare Instructions

Proper aftercare is essential for achieving optimal results from your non-surgical cosmetic augmentation treatment. Please follow these post-treatment instructions:

  1. No Touching or Massaging: Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated area for at least 24 hours.

  2. Stay Upright: Remain upright for 4-6 hours after your procedure to prevent product migration.

  3. Avoid Heat Exposure: Refrain from hot baths, saunas, and strenuous exercise for 48 hours post-treatment. Excessive heat may increase swelling or irritation.

  4. Skip Makeup: Do not apply makeup or other skincare products to the treated area for 24 hours.

  5. Hydrate and Protect: Continue drinking water to support healing and apply a high-SPF sunscreen to protect the treated area from sun exposure for at least a week.

  6. Be Gentle: Use a mild cleanser when washing your face and avoid exfoliants or harsh products for at least a week.

  7. Limit Alcohol and Smoking: Avoid alcohol and smoking for 48 hours post-treatment to support healing and enhance results.

What to Expect

  • Vascular occlusion- Increasing bruising that is increasing in size, with mottled skin, swelling and pain.

  • Infection- Delayed increasing pain, swelling and heat after day 3 of treatment.

  • Sight changes/pressure behind the eye.

  • These concerns need to be treated urgently, please call the clinic for an urgent appointment.

  • Cold sores- The virus may be reactivated with the use of filler, it is recommended to take 3 tablets of Famciclovir 500mg (1.5g total) at the time or just after treatment.

  • Nodular formation, often associated with a recent infection from a virus or auto immune conditions. These can resolve over the day to week, an anti histamine can be taken to reduce theappearance. Please seek assistance from the clinic for treatment in a non- urgent fashion.

  • Filler migration- There is a chance that filler may migrate away from the injected area. This
    usually is seen a month or more after the filler is injected. This can be dissolved and is considered
    a non urgent procedure. Please contact your clinic regarding this treatment

  • Full results are usually visible within 1-2 weeks and can last several months depending on the treatment and individual factors.
